Just finished watching this vid for the 3rd time in row and I have to give props to Gaga because this took some hard ass work to pull off on her part and on her production team’s. No, the video doesn’t exactly reflect what anyone envisioned from hearing this song but when have any of her music vid’s gone hand in hand with its audio counterpart. Post “Poker Face” anyways. We all know she likes to give us a little more meaning and depth with her releases and she’s certainly achieved no less here.

This video is all about men, more specifically, their sexuality, their place in society and the balance between the two. Going through the video with a fine tooth comb will show you that there is a lot of hidden meaning in every scene. Overall, Gaga is trying to show us all how men, to this day, are expected, by the rest of the world, to act or behave a certain way: Masculine, dominant, aggressive, etc. (represented by the aggressive militarian choreography) and that even though some men may act like that way for society’s sake, there is a more feminine, submissive side which can only be expressed in the safety of their own beds.

The video also hints (quite in your face-ly) at the struggle between homosexuality and religion. And no I do not buy into all the illuminati and blasphemy bullshit for a second. Everyone who believes in something has their own connection to it and shouldn’t get all bitchy and whiney when they come across someone else having their own views on it. If it’s THAT big a problem to your religious beliefs then just be happy that your gunna get a good seat in Heaven while Lady Gaga burns in Hell.

Knowing what the video is all about certainly goes a long way but I can’t help wondering if a more straight forward and stripped down concept would have a better accompaniment to this song. It’s a good song, great production and just feel that this video was all wrong for the song. I would have liked to have seen a good old fashioned love chase in a bright Mexican town, maybe some gentle choreography on a beach at sunset. Don’t get me wrong, I think the video on it’s own is great too, maybe a good setup for a “Teeth” video but not “Alejandro”.

So what are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments below.
